With Beef 2012 behind us, our attention has returned to school. This week is mini school so while Dad has returned home to muster, the 5 little ones and I have stayed on in Rockhampton.
We’ve adopted a mainstream “school routine” with packed lunches, uniforms and the school drop off and pick up. Hamish, Adelaide & Eliza have been patiently sitting through Home Tutor Seminars and Parent Forums.
Andrew has enjoyed partaking in a “Survivor” crusade with his Year 3 & 4 classmates. He is learning some valuable life lessons about leading a group on the side! (Comment made tonight about the difficulties in getting girls to listen….)Another highlight for him was an excursion to the Fitzroy Basin Association FLOW Visitor Centre.
Lachlan has learnt loads of interesting facts about the brain and skeleton. He proudly told me that he has done lots of writing each day and would you believe he had to write FOUR sentences today. That is a big deal when you’re just 6!!
Hamish, on the other hand, is a little despondent that not much exciting has happened for him this week…looking forward to the eKindy pilot program next semester that will give him a “title”.
He was tickled pink to be included in a little visit to the school library this morning and then to be able to join the P to 2 cohort for their Brain Gym exercises prior to lessons starting.
Adelaide, in true form, has moved around the social circles this week. She is not at all shy about asking to have her needs met….
And last of all Miss Eliza…tomorrow, she will be 6 months old. We offered her some rice cereal tonight, her first taste of solids. She LOVED it…I knew she would. Off to have her vaccinations after school tomorrow….
We’re all a little weary of town and craving some Dad attention. The best Mum can offer is a technological fix called FaceTime. It certainly delivers a bit of “kid reality” to Dad!
Heading home on Friday, a busy week-end ahead with our local camp draft on this week-end. Boys are hoping to ride in the Junior event. We are donating cattle for the Maiden Draft, Dad is disappointed that he won’t have his right hand men to help him walk the cattle in tomorrow although I’m sure they will be keen to give a hand for the droving trip home on Sunday….
