After four days of skiing we left Wanaka
 and travelled North,
following the State Highway 8 through Lindis Pass,
The obligatory tourist snap!!
and emerging in the heart of McKenzie Country to base ourselves at a place called Lake Tekapo.
From here we toured a Salmon Farm where the kids were able to feed the fish and the grown ups talked agriculture, farming, cost of production and feed conversion.
We left with smoked salmon and sushi to enjoy for lunch.
After grabbing fresh bread in Tizel, we followed the rim of Lake Pukaki to explore the village of Mt Cook and interact with the landscape at the foothills of the Southern Alps.
The Information Centre armed us with lots of local knowledge and historical facts and suggested the Kea Point Track suitable for little people and a great place to view the Mueller Glacier, Mt Sefton and the glacial lake.
Kids of course, had a variety of thermostats happening and loved the snow scattered along the path. Perfect to throw at each other apparently ……
The track was well groomed and after a few hours spent in the car, was perfect for burning energy.
We were certainly rewarded for our efforts with a dramatic view of glacial glory. Although, with a blustery wind whistling through, it was hard to convince the kids of nature’s beauty.
The trek back was equally scenic.
We then tackled a much shorter, yet steeper climb to view the Tasman Glacier. I must commend Rob on carrying Eliza to the top, it was a pretty rugged track!
New Zealand is certainly a very beautiful place to visit. The colours of the dramatic landscape are just breathtaking.

Photo opportunities were plentiful ……

Looking back at these shots, I almost have to pinch myself that we were there just last week.
My biggest wish from our sojourn overseas is that we created a few more memories for the kids. Ones of fun, laughter, adventure, family, togetherness xx
