The 10th triennial Beef Expo is just days away from starting in Rockhampton.
To say that we are ‘beef – excited’ is an understatement!
I reminisced a little today as I read about the last Beef event in 2012.
At the moment planning, work and school conversations in this house seem to be about life before Beef and after Beef. The week of Beef is just Beef!
There’s a vast array of things happening from Sunday onward.
We’re kicking off our week on Sunday evening at a Nose to Tail affair which will see a celebrity butcher break down a carcase, explaining each muscle group and the best way to prepare and cook it. Naturally, we will be dining on a delicious menu prepared using mostly non-loin cuts to show how we can value add what we produce. Monday we will be up bright and early for the Beef Industry Symposium with a banquet of local, national and international speakers discussing a range of very pertinent topics to stimulate some meaty thinking. A Q&A session over lunch is sure to engage.
Each evening there is a myriad of functions and restaurants to choose from although some evenings Rob & I are best found tucking our little cherubs into bed! Beef holds a lot of special memories for us. It was way back at Beef 2000 when our romance blossomed! By Beef 2003 we were married and eagerly awaiting the arrival of Andrew, Beef 2006 we were a family of five nurturing a newborn Lachlan, at Beef 2009 we were juggling a pram, and toddlers on hips and by Beef 2012 we had again expanded our brood to six. It’s kind of strange to think we are attending Beef 2015 without a babe in a pram!
Beef Week is a mosaic of educational experiences, networking with trade alliances, viewing the latest industry innovations, socialising, showcasing our products, parading beef cattle, catching up with mates, debating the issues and celebrating the achievements. Each day there are seminars offering insight into a myriad of beef topics, a trade show sure to inspire you and expose you to what you can spend your hard earned cash on, property tours, stud cattle judging, displays of genetics from the leading cattle herds in Australia, there is a commercial cattle competition for cattle both on the hoof and on the hook and of course all the mates that you haven’t seen for three years are there as well!
Kids are catered for with a designated Kids space with entertainment happening periodically through the day. Thirsty Merc and a PBR Bull Ride sure to appeal to crowds both young and old.
So in a nutshell, that is Beef Week. (And there is plenty of exciting detail I’ve missed!)
In this age of social media interaction, you can follow on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The official hashtag is #BeefAus2015 and there is an App but I’ll be honest and say you’re much better off being there in person (apart from the getting foot sore bit!!)
