Yesterday we closed the schoolroom door for Summer Holidays.
Today we competed in the first of two end of year swimming carnivals.
Four small school communities gathered today at Clarke Creek to cheer each other on.
Participation was the key word, and every child was encouraged to have a go in as many events as the ywere able. Adelaide determinedly swam her little heart out in 25m of each stroke and then a relay leg.
She came home with an Age champion.
The weather was certainly appropriate for a swimming carnival, with gallons of sunburn cream required.
Hamish, like Adelaide, swam 25m of each stroke and then a leg in the relay. He opted for the kick board in backstroke as his bottom has a tendency to sink ….. didn’t stop him smiling!
Lachlan was on a mission. He certainly doesn’t shy away from a challenge or a competition! Age champion achieved, he’s very happy.
Keeping with the participation, ‘have a go’ theme of the day, at frequent intervals, the children were allowed to have a free swim in the pool. What a fantastic idea!
Socialisation in a ‘bigger pool’ of children is such a great thing for all these cherubs.
Little Eliza still has a few years to wait until her turn in the world of swimming carnivals. It seems like just yesterday that she was a brand new baby at this very pool on a similarly hot December day.
As the sun passed overhead and clouds began to filter in, we celebrated everyone’s achievements.
Look at all those ribbons!
One thing for sure, these little people will sleep well tonight and gather some energy to do it all again at another carnival on Monday.
I think it’s officially swimming season!
