A change of season is in the air ….
The sun is rising a little earlier,
the mornings are brisk rather than cold;
fog that blankets us each morning
gives way to the warmth of a sun that is a little higher in a clear blue midday sky.
The warmer days have meant a green shoot has emerged, sapping the residual moisture that Autumn rain has left. Of course, the green won’t last long as the days begin to heat up….
The cows are beginning to spring and some have already sprung.
When shifting the cows to new pasture, we have to keep an eye out for sleepy babes, resting in the grass.
 Warmer days means our reliance on man made waters has increased and we spend more time  gazing at windmills and hoping for wind….
As spring  is traditionally our driest time, and the grass is often low in protein, cows are supplemented with some protein meal based lick. They gather in anticipation of a fresh bag of supplement or a  shift to fresh pasture……….
The days are lengthening and we all relish the extra hour of light ……
Living and working on the land means we use every bit of that daylight, no matter how many hours we have!
