Well Term 3 is well and truly underway. We kick off into week 3 tomorrow, then there is week 4 and then we get excited because it’s mini school week.
In the meantime we’ve lots of lessons to do.
Our schoolroom is not big, by any stretch of the imagination and more often than not a few of us spill out onto the verandah.
On these wintery mornings the day bed is just the spot for reading (with a lemon tea in hand, of course).
The extra space is also handy when you are hefting mass or need to calculate how many teddy bears a horse weighs.
In all seriousness, educating our children in the bush is a big job and one that takes a lot of time, patience, sweat and tears. I know that all my fellow Home Tutors can relate.
I also know that whether you’re child attends a small school or you travel hundreds of kilometres each week to reach a bigger school or your child is attending boarding school because they have no other option or you live in town during the week so kids can attend a school while Dad keeps the home fires burning or whatever the situation may be, educational opportunities in rural and remote areas are well supported by the Isolated Childrens’ Parents Association (ICPA)
Josh Arnold from Small Town Culture fame, has just composed and launched an anthem for ICPA.
It’s a real celebration of the lives our children lead.
As they say, focus on the positives and all the good around us. The rest will fall into place.
And if it doesn’t, apple pie certainly helps make things better. Country kids seem to be able to turn a hand to most things.
