With the cattle work mostly up to date,
and a family tradition to uphold, last week we packed our bags for a visit to the big smoke.
The Brisbane ‘Ekka’ is held each August and is renown as an event that brings a little bit of country to the city. It also means we leave a little bit of our hard earned cash in the city!
Funnily enough, the ride on the Ferris Wheel for Adelaide, paled into significance after riding on a train through a tunnel from Roma St to Central Station.
We bumped into Grandad and Grandma in Centre Ring and did a little crowd funding with our piggy banks to fund a show bag or two. Of course everyone was super excited to see Tess and cousin, Lauren, was bombarded.
The boys conned Tess and Lauren into a visit to see the animals and racing pigs.
I did smile at their fascination with the pigs …… it’s not like they haven’t had any pig exposure recently!?
A full day of site seeing. socialising and living the city life meant we were all pretty weary at the day’s end. A strawberry ice-cream did go some way toward replenishing energy levels for the walk back to our hotel.
While the Ekka festivities continue for 10 days, we rushed back to pack bags for school camp and mini school. This morning, on Day 4 of mini school, both of the girls mentioned missing home and their horses.
Safe to say they’ve had enough of city life for the next little while.
For us, wide open spaces win every time.
