Growing children means growing appetites and we certainly eat well. Mostly, well actually, nearly always we eat homemade and nearly always this cooking is consumed in one sitting. Sometimes I lose my mojo to cook extraordinary meals for them all day everyday. And today is one of those days, so tonight I thought it might help to reflect on all the mulberry delicacies of the past few weeks. And then I started to think of the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
On Monday he chewed through a Mulberry & Apple Crumble…
On Tuesday, he turned to Marble Cake….
And then he moved onto Mulberry & Apple Charlotte Cake
Now this hungry caterpillar and his siblings were still hungry and took full advantage of their biggest sibling being home for a week for she is pretty nifty in the kitchen as well.
Imagine their delight when she made spaghetti bolognese with homemade pasta…
Now the second week of the school holidays weren’t quite as exciting. Chores outside got in the way of baking time.
That is until father caterpillar took the biggest and strongest male on a hunting and gathering expedition.
This was no ordinary mulberry hunting exercise, but rather a journey over high seas to the Great Barrier Reef. They basked in the peacefulness and glassiness of the Pacific Ocean while mother caterpillar looked after her four littlest babies.
And now they are all delighted to be reunited. We will once again begin to feast. This week it is Reef Fish. Mmmmmmm……
Oh and nowI think I have that mojo back. With a new milker producing ample and chooks laying a dozen a day, I’m thinking mulberries and homemade custard!
