And back to work we go….
Tess arrived home for her mid-semester break on Easter Sunday afternoon. Rob was keen to roll on with the mustering while we had an extra, very capable set of hands.
It is weaning time, we will take off the bigger calves so that their mothers will improve in body condition prior to the feed deteriorating as we enter the “dry” season.
Tess and the boys mustered the breeders on their horses while Dad puttered about on the Ranger, straining up a couple of fences. With the cattle in hand in the cooler, the horses were relieved to be let graze on the lawn at Charons Ferry while the troops set about yarding up and drafting.
Once the cattle were penned up, everyone took a gate to work. Weaners were segregated from their mothers and some fat cows pulled aside.
This lovely fellow (who has done an awesome job of caring for the Charons Ferry garden), volunteered his Easter Monday afternoon to give us a hand in the pound.
Lachlan kept a watchful eye on the proceedings….
before he and Andrew were distracted by something in the grass…
and then the lure of a water trough.
Eliza soon decided that she needed her afternoon tea, not yet ready to be in the weaner yard!
And if sitting down against the rails is good enough for Mum, then it is good enough for all.
