Nothing like a yard full of weaners to tempt some showery weather….
measured 16mm of rain this morning.
Nice to bring the moisture back up to the surface and beautiful for the lawn and vegie patch. Not so pleasant for the newly weaned babes in the yards.
Although they had tummies full of hay and protein meal, the calves were grass hungry and not enjoying the slop. Management decided to bring their “tailing” forward a day and so Rob spent time this morning shepherding them in the lane. They wanted to walk and bellow in search of their Mumma but all the same they were easily held together and happy to put their heads down and feed.
Now tailing weaners, when I was a girl, was a boring job, especially after the first hour. You’d tire quickly of watching butterflies and the clouds and pine for shade and smoko.
My, haven’t times changed….

For the new age cattleman here at MP, when tailing weaners, now has his  smart phone and instagram to while away the hours.
Again Tess was in Rob’s virtual world, commenting on the paddock, condition of stock and grass…
I too, can follow @robmcarthurmp along when busy in the office….

At heart, I’m a traditionalist, and love some of the things we do the ‘old fashioned’ way. Like making guava jam on the stove top.
Although it really is a blend of the old and the new
as I teach myself to crochet granny squares and quilt via YouTube…..
Technology and new ways of learning and sharing information are amazing but I’m just so glad to be married to an old fashioned cowboy complete with manners, respect and plain old fashioned charm.

ah, hasn’t tailing changed! (sadly no phone reception when mustering or tailing in our neck of the woods, although I possibly would get into more strife if there were!)
