Last year I wrote about What to do with 18km of Rusty Barb Wire and mentioned a potential Christmas tree. I do recall clearly the grimace of my husband and children as we embarked on some early evening creativity sessions!
With the aid of a welder, a pair of pliers, four steel pickets and a coil of rusty, barb wire rolled up on an old fence line, we were able to knock up this DIY Christmas Tree.
It looked great on the verandah, adorned in lights and of course oozed rugged, recycled appeal.
The beauty of this type of tree is it’s ease of storage, being weather proof and all! We stashed it in the back of the shed for the year and naturally it was adorned with cobwebs and dust when we fetched it out again last week.
Deciding that this year’s Christmas would have a more modern take, I invested in a tin of silver spray paint. Five minutes of decobwebbing and 5 minutes of spraying silver paint and we have a tree fit for decoration.
Now while most people on the land have borne the scratches and cursed the barbs of barb wire, I must say they make hanging decorations a breeze and can deter younger people fascinated by the baubles.
Now if anyone is keen to replicate this idea, I can certainly point you in the direction of a further 17,995 metres of rusty barb wire!?
