Christmas usually means expanding waistlines and tighter pants. This year we’ve decided to tackle the problem head on ….. and lose the kilos before they pile on.
That way we should find some sense of equilibrium and feel healthy in January …. well that’s the theory!
Apart from swimming laps in the pool and the morning runs, we’ve added branding to our exercise routine. Hot, steamy summer days, robust Angus/Brahman cross calves to pen up and a few hours in the saddle to round them up have certainly got the team being physical.

As with all that we do, mustering, drafting and branding have been a family affair.

Our smoko has often been under the shade of a tree with nobody minding one bit about ‘roughing’ it …. all just appreciative of the cold water and a chance to sit down.

With a wedge of calves branded, our attention has turned to moving a couple of mobs of cattle into fresh paddocks.

This has provided a great opportunity to have Hamish and Adelaide ride with us. No pressure from the cattle as the are eager to move onto the new paddock and with the Tess, Andrew and Lachlan more than capable of keeping the mob heading in the right direction, I can ride with the littler ones offering encouragement as they cross a steep creek or navigate there way across around a waterhole.
Have I mentioned how much we love school holidays?

With Christmas only 2 days away, we’ve set the crab pots. We’re certainly not professional fisherman or tide experts. so imagine the delight when the boys came home with this bounty of fresh mud crab!

While the boys have been rolling pork roasts and reading up on smoking hams, the girls and I have been looking after the sweet treats.
Those Mini Plum Pudding Truffles of Fiona’s are a new favourite in this household.
Trouble is they probably equate to another 30 minutes in the pool or another 100 calves to brand!

Oh I think we’ll book into your place for Christmas, with all of the green and yummies…the only green here being the wretched pool!
