Last Sunday our little Princess came to grief. A shocking accident playing with her siblings that gave us all the fright you wish upon no one. She has suffered complex fractures to the base of her skull and mastoid, a fractured collar bone and bruising. Our little babe has had more tubes, drugs, drips and prods then I can count……
Although still in hospital, her recovery has been remarkable. She has shown how resilient our little cherubs are.

I would like to praise and thank all those who have assisted in her care – the ambulance, the Care Flight helicopter, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Emergency Department at Mackay Base Hospital, Townsville Intensive Care Unit and the Townsville Pediatric Ward. We are truly appreciative of their care, prompt attention and responsiveness to all our questions.

We also feel very blessed to have wonderful family and friends who have dropped everything to support us. The kind thoughts, messages and phone calls from so many have been amazing.

And as for our wonderful daughter, Tess. She has cared for 3 small boys, managed a cattle property, run a household, cared for a garden, fed the menagerie (animals & kids!), taught school and taken on the role of Communications Officer on the home front. She has painted with the kids and taken them swimming. Thank-you Tess-a-belle!!

Today our family will be reunited – I can’t wait to see the delight in Adelaide’s face, to allow Tess to be “young” again, to see the boys cuddle Dad and for me to hear all the chatter.

And to then, once given the all clear, journey home with Adelaide, wrapped in cotton wool of course!

Ainsley, I read this with sinking heart. Our thoughts are with you all. I can only imagine the anguish you’ve felt the past week. Wishing Adelaide a speedy recovery and you all a joyful reunion.

oh Ainsley, what an awful few days for you, I understand completley how a perfectly normal day can change in an instant! I have no doubt your little monkey will be home and running around and into her usual mischeif in no time at all (you will be able to tell that she is feeling her old self when that happens) so pleased that she is making such a great reovery.

The paediatric nurses in intensive care are just wonderful, I would not be surprised if you had the very same ones as we had (Lizzie and Fiona I think their names were)While the health system is a bit of a mess, the staff are just brilliant.

Hope you are home soon, thinking of you all (and what a beautiful oldest daughter you have, managing the home front while you are away.
