Seems sometimes life on the land is a little bit ‘same old, same old’ although I must say the one thing changing rapidly is the size of our children and their appetites.

Eliza has graduated from toddlerhood to a little girl. She is keen to wear her hair up these days, this week asking for her hair to be not put in piggy tails but rather a horse. I was a little confused by this request until I realised she was referring to a pony tail, just like Adelaide!

Back to the ‘same old, same old’, the girls have continued to be unstoppable on their horses. Rarely can Rob sneak out on a muster without having to saddle some little people’s steeds.

A dry May means the yards have become quite dusty, although this only seems to be a problem for the laundry lady …..

With weaning mostly completed, our attention has turned to pregnancy testing and marketing dry stock as we balance the grass and livestock budget.

We’ve recently invested in a innovative, cost effective gadget which means an App on our iPhone or iPad can now be justified down at the yards for something else rather than snapping Instagram shots! The SmartARS precision scale interface developed by Mandra means we can now use our iDevices as a scale indicator and simply email the files to our office. Easy Peasy! I must also make mention of the product developers’ willingness to assist me with a technical glitch, even if it is early on a Sunday morning. Cheers Will.

While I record animal weights and drafting ways ( and take happy snaps), Adelaide continues to develop her gross motor skills working the air operated crush and drafting gates.

A couple of week-ends ago we participated in a Low Stress Stock Handling School. The kids all took part in the training as well. So many lessons on so many levels.

The kids have all been quite reflective on how the cattle respond to their actions in the yards and when mustering ever since. Seems you are never too young or old to refine your skills.

While winter has been almost non existent thus far, we have been rewarded with both gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.

Life is really is good and rewarding, same old, same old, same old …….

Awesome… our ‘same old same old’ has been similar. Your images are great – we too did the LSS school a little while ago – fascinating. We have clouds at the moment – hoping they are reaching you too!

The rhythm of raising cattle BB! We enjoyed doing it together as a family … was hilarious as kids let out a few family secrets 😉 Clouds are quite tormenting as they blow past here. School holiday countdown?

Lovely update Ainsley. Our year really does roll on by with the same old jobs -branding, weaning, preg testing ,marketing, calving season and back to branding ! Thank goodness we love it all ! ( Poor old Will fields quite a few calls from our family members as well! ……always very helpful with the queries!)
    Kind Regards Bron B

Haha…your same old and our same old as nothing alike at all except maybe growing kids and appetites. I’d be interested to know more about the low-stress handling school…made me think of Temple Grandin and her work with cattle processes.
