Term 3 of the school year is done and dusted. We may have all shouted ‘Yippee’! And maybe I shouted the loudest ……
School holidays give me 7 hours, 5 days a week to do ‘other things’ beside teaching these cherubs. Don’t get me wrong, I love the role I play in their education, but boy oh boy do I relish time to spend doing those ‘other things’.
I was so excited, I spoilt myself and picked a bunch of roses and lavender from the garden and placed them on my bedside table.
The other great thing about school holidays is that Andrew comes home from boarding school and is a full time member of our team.
The only dilemma is that more often than not, he can’t find a shirt or pair of jeans that fit! He’s growing fast.
The first weekend of our school holidays were even more special, as Tess returned home from Brisbane along with Paula Heelan (of paulaheelanphotojournalism fame).
What a gorgeous week-end it was …… we spent lots of time taking photos and sharing stories. The kids blossomed in both Tess and Paula’s company.
They chatted incessantly, took our guest driving in the ute to pick bush lemons and then picked mulberries (it’s a BUMPER crop). They rode their horses, showed off their pigs and fluffy chickens.
Andrew took a keen interest in my DSLR camera over the week-end and with Paula’s expert tuition took some cracker shots of flowers in a vase.
Of course Monday came around soon enough, we were back to the hard yakka. Dad has set a deadline of next Monday to get a new fence line complete.
This new fence will split another larger paddock in two meaning we will be able to install a little more rest into the grazing system.
Rob has been busy on the saw, ripping billets for split Ironbark posts. The boys have various roles. One is on the bobcat stacking posts, another on the crowbar and the third has been on the D4 brushing up the fence line. The girls have been off siding at the house with me, making smoko and doing an apprenticeship on the vacuum.
The girl team have also taken on the role of checking water troughs and grass cover.
It’s a nice change of pace to the school routine.
