On Sunday night we reflected on another whirlwind fortnight of school holidays.

There had been no trips to the beach or shopping, no cinema or sleep overs, no road trips and not even a crabbing adventure.

There was, however, plenty of mustering, fencing, cattle work, timber cutting, a clearance sale, a store sale, some pool time, backyard cricket, picnics, good food and mulberries. I asked the kids, to summarise their two weeks and in unison they chanted, “Best school holidays ever!”

They seem easy pleased!

So what was the secret?

Was it the mulberries, the stained fingers and the purple lips that then became mulberry pie?

Or was it time in the saddle, riding alongside Dad?

It could have been all the adventures they had while riding … the imaginary playing, pretending that you’re Clancy of the Overflow.

Was it the freedom of timetables and the opportunity to be in the great outdoors?

Or just simply the fact, that you knew that you’d done a good job?

Lovely photos. It looks like the best sort of holiday to me, too.
