Last weekend we celebrated Father’s Day. Rob is certainly a super, hands on, involved, patient, kind of Dad.
He also has a very strong work ethic. Rather than sit idle and drink tea on the verandah on his ‘special day’, he decided to take a Sunday drive with the family to Eton to collect a new Berkshire Boar from Freckle Farm.
After enjoying a guided tour of a holistically managed, pasture fed pork and a pastured egg system, we loaded our new pig onto the cattle truck and headed for home. Lunch was high on the agenda for our constituents and so I suggested a picnic somewhere along the road.
A hot chicken, some bread rolls, avocado, a thermos of tea and two punnets of strawberries tasted pretty good with the waves crashing in the background. Never mind the unsuitability of our attire.
While we are quite adept at herding cattle into yards, handling pigs is a whole new ball game.
Our most reliable method of mustering is a feed bucket. I guess it qualifies as Low Stress Stock handling …..
Spring has seen an unpleasant flu transcend on us, all of the cherubs have spend some time on the day bed at some point this week.
Moving away from pigs, at back to our core business of cows, we have been doing a spot of mustering.
Adelaide is kick, kick, kicking as she tries to convince Patriot that she is now confident and capable of cantering.
I love this stage, when a horse, who has reliably and safely never broken canter for their little rider, now has to be convinced that it is indeed time to raise a sweat.
The kids continue to swap around horses, I’m never quite sure who they’ll be on next!
Tess has escaped the city again this week-end to join in the fun. Andrew had to relinquish riding Mojo.
Dawn on the Brisbane river still doesn’t stack up to a sunrise at home.
Of course, cafe food isn’t a patch on home baking either!
Everyone is delighting in the warmer weather and lengthening days although a few inches of rain would be more than welcome.
The garden continues to produce and we are reaping the rewards of a cherry tomato bush at present.
While we’ve had a little battle with some pesky rabbits helping themselves to parsley and lettuce, my friend Kookaburra is more than content with the odd worm.
Happy Spring days.
