As the kids have grown, so has our mustering team.

With school out for the Easter break and Tess home from Brisbane for a few short days we hustled to take advantage of the team and herd a few cattle through the yards.

Nobody was deterred by a few intermittent showers of rain.

As quickly as the cloud came over, the sun then shone through.

IMG_7077

Rob & I  weren’t the only ones extremely  grateful for showers totalling 44mm. It certainly kept them occupied while we drafted the cows. The mud also kept the washing lady busy ……..

Once drafted the cattle have to be returned to their respective paddocks.

IMG_7099

With so many little ringers on hand, Rob was able to have two teams working.

IMG_7102

Andrew & Lachlan helped Rob and his junior team get a headstart with their mob of heifers before they returned to the yards to start out with a second group of cows and calves.

IMG_7157

This meant Hamish & Big Ben had to keep their eye on the ball,

IMG_7118

watching carefully the lead cows didn’t get too far out in front.

IMG_7117

Dad wasn’t able to help him much as he & Eliza had to keep the wing in and Eliza was a little busy smiling for the camera!

IMG_7110

Adelaide was in charge of keeping the tail poking along.

IMG_7139

Hamish occasionally came back to check she was going OK. Those blessed cows were keen to stop and eat some grass.

IMG_7128

It’s a big responsibility working in Dad’s team when you’re second in charge.

IMG_7162

And so the day’s over the Easter break have been much the same, with some riding and cattle work most days.

IMG_7262

Eliza is still as keen as mustard, although her dismounting in somewhat unconventional.

IMG_7265

IMG_7211

It seems Rob and I are almost redundant as both our horses have been claimed by the little people.

IMG_7221

IMG_7214

I did borrow Big Ben off Hamish (hence my saddle) but he was keen to swap the seat on the Ranger for his horse on the way home.

IMG_7231

Leading his little sister was certainly no handicap.

IMG_7240

Seems as long as we keep them well fed and provide intermittent breaks at a creek, our team keeps on keeping on!
