Like most fellow Queenslanders, we have enjoyed some wet weather in recent days, and for our business, this rain has been very timely. 73mm of rain will ensure the weaner paddocks stay fresh and the pregnant cows have fresh feed ahead as we go into the winter months.
This week-end was also the “St Lawrence Wetlands Week-end” – a community event organised to celebrate and enjoy our local wetlands. And wet it was!! This didn’t deter our little people’s enthusiasm to pay a visit to the prominent artists in attendance.
The boys enjoyed spending some time with Scott Maxwell, an artist from Brisbane, who provided them with some crayons and ink pencils to create their own masterpieces.
The warmth of a fire lured us back for dinner. Who could resist sharing a rum with friends while the roast dinner and a sticky date pudding cooked over the coals? Andrew spent a good deal of time chatting to the cooks about damper recipes and the likes. Terry & Leah Leaghy, the camp oven cooking specialists, were generous enough to send us home with a sample to toast for breakfast this morning. With butter & syrup it was delish!
The boys & Adelaide loved the entertainment provided by the band, Hullabaloo. They joined in the bush dancing, learnt how to do the polka and boogied along to good old Hokey Pokey. I must say, they were a little steady out of bed this morning!
I was excited to read of a digital photography workshop conducted by Joachim Froese, a renown art photographer who has exhibited widely both in Australia and overseas.
So this morning I donned my gumboots and camera and followed along to pick up some technical tips and have some expert tuition. Came home inspired, and would love to organise a local workshop again soon – anyone keen?
Our visit to the Wetlands Week-end was very impromptu but we had a great time. I must thank our local council who showcased our little piece of paradise so well. It is a great initiative to bring a little culture to a small community.
